School refusal is often misunderstood. It’s not laziness or defiance — it’s usually anxiety in disguise. For some young people, school feels overwhelming, unsafe, or simply too much to cope with. Whether it’s due to social anxiety, sensory overload, past trauma, or feeling like they don’t fit in, the fear is real and the distress is deep. I provide a calm, non-judgemental space where children and young adults can begin to explore what’s really going on beneath the surface.
Through Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, I help them identify the fears and thoughts driving their avoidance, while also working to calm the nervous system through gentle relaxation techniques and guided imagery. Sessions are tailored to the individual and always paced with care. I also work alongside parents — and where needed, schools — to create a supportive plan that makes returning feel possible again. The goal is never to push — it’s to rebuild trust, confidence, and emotional safety one step at a time.
It’s hard as a parent or care giver going through the same daily battle of trying to get your child to go to school. Especially if they are distressed and you don’t know why and often they’re not really sure either.
